BIO CHAR SOCKS -We Still Have Some Left

Tri-Lakes has procured 200 Bio Char Socks bags for distribution in the 3 Lakes.

We are looking to place 100 bags in the Camelot Channel and the remainder in the 3 lakes along the main bodies of water, not in the bays or fingers as we are working to place additional NEO units in those locations.

We are working with the 14 Mile Watershed team, so we also have submissions from them.

One bag may be picked up per address, also bring  a tall kitchen bag as they will leave a mess in your car.

 

WHAT ARE BIO-CHAR SOCKS AND WHAT DO THEY DO . . .

Biochar socks are porous, mesh tubes filled with biochar—a carbon-rich, charcoal-like substance made by heating organic matter (like wood) in a low-oxygen environment. Suspended in water or placed in drainage areas, they act as natural, eco-friendly filters to passively clarify water.

They are widely used in watershed and lake management to achieve a few core environmental goals: 

• Nutrient Reduction: They bind to and remove excess nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen from the water column. Because these nutrients fuel harmful algae blooms, the socks act as a preventative, low-impact way to keep lakes and ponds healthy.
• Heavy Metal Filtering: Biochar absorbs pollutants like zinc and copper, making the socks highly effective for treating runoff around boat docks and storm drains. 
• Water Clarification: As water passes through the porous mesh and biochar chunks, it reduces turbidity (cloudiness) and total suspended solids (TSS)
